Good idea. Here's a short list of what qualifications the ads must meet:

    - They must not be animated.

    - They must not include sound.

    - They must not cover up content.

    - They must not redirect the user to another web page unless a link is clicked.

    - They must not move around the page.

    - They must not use javascript.

    Or just this:

    - They must consist of a well defined rectangle in a static location on the web page. The only way they interact with the user is that when the user clicks a link in the rectangle, the user is then redirected to another web page, just like any regular link.

But it's so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of you: are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet or his enemy's? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me

It sounds like you went into a hydroplane with the left side of the car in deeper water than the right side. Neither side had traction, but the deeper water put more drag on the left side and forced you into a counter-clockwise spin.

A well experienced driver, who was used to sliding, might have been able to save it with a nuanced steering correction to the right. Several people have already suggested going to a wide open parking lot in moderate rain or light snow and learning how to handle a slide. I did it when I was young and I think it’s a great idea.

I can handle a normal slide, but hydroplaning is a beast unto itself and, when I know its out there, I slow down enough to avoid it entirely.

Since you're already painting with this brush, note that Hitler thought he was making the world a better place too. He was also big on sacrifice ('stop being so "i got mine, so fuck you"') as well. Sound familiar?

Look, I get that you're dredging up old Adolf to express that mere intention doesn't make for good and evil. I happen to agree with you on that. In fact, I'm becoming more and more of the "road to Hell is paved with good intentions" school of thought as I get older.

I can see how you might have met a lot of less than genuine people who also tend towards the sentimental. However, please don't assume that everyone that has an intention different than yours (i.e. those who might weep a tear at this story) is a hypocrite. It is entirely possible to have an open heart and to do good works at the same time.

You want to see an example that might give you a little bit of hope for humanity? Donate a day to Habitat for Humanity. You'll meet down to earth folks who really want to make the world a better place, one tiny bit at a time.

This course is but one example.

I've never been able to find the video/audio downloads for any of various OCW course lectures, despite class schedules, notes, recommended books, etc. being available. What's "open" about a course when you don't make the lectures available?

And why is this being downmodded? Because I'm pointing out that something is obviously wrong with a site that says it's "open" when the primary material is unavailable unless you walk into the classroom?

If so, where are the lectures? I can't find the relevant URLs.

The worst part about the US system is that you elect a multitude of people for various roles at various levels, and then pen the entire outcome of this on one person. From a British perspective, Obama promised a lot of things (as all candidates did) and once elected immediately got stuck in the quagmire of US politics. Its not like he is a dictator capable of imposing his view on anything he wants, he has to work within a (largely fucked) system made of people with hugely different intractable views on the congressional cafeteria menu, let alone national policy.

WTF. McCain is a hawk. We'd be in the middle of world war fucking three right now.

We wouldn't be discussing health insurance because we would have invaded Iran and would be so in debt to our military spending we couldn't dream to afford it.

Oh, and because he supports the free market like Bush, we'd still be outsourcing all of our military production, so the recession would be going even stronger even though the national government would be bleeding even more money and our banks would probably be in much worse shape.

Do not ever say McCain == Obama again.

    > Then you don't get to say I'm taking it out of context like you did

Now, no. When I answered, yes.

I don't give a damn about credentials, but still we are "playing" theologists rather than "being" (definitely I am just playing). In order for me to accept that I am wrong, one would have to explain me the passage and all the verses, with philological and historical references to other books and so on. I had the experience only once, and it was very mind expanding. I have no doubt that that guy (a young priest about my age) would be able to convince me.

Would guess that Reddit users in general would score 20-30 points above "average" IQ. Personally, I consistently scored in 98-99th percentile in standardized tests and graduated in the top of my class. However, we did not have gifted/talented programs available for my small private elem. school and only Honors English and math for high school. While it was frustrating to be held back by others in the class, I strongly believe it is better for teachers to focus resources on the lowest student(s) in the class rather than the gifted student(s). Teachers are probably better equipped to deal with the remedial side, as well, based on my college education class experience.

Modernity, hmmm... that's a tough one. I happen to live in an area that employs more engineers per square mile than any other place in the country. Why don't you hear of us? We work for government contractors and can't disclose what we do. We create the stuff that's keeping you safe and forwarding progress.

I'm sorry you're ignorant because the stars and bars, rebel flag, etc were all direct off-shoots of old glory and the union jack. I find the resemblance far too close and am insulted that those flags too convey a sense of slavery around them. The union jack oppressed and murdered millions of peoples around the world, enslaved millions as well, and traded them to territories flying old glory. Would you please tell your uneducated northern brethren to please remove any such flags because they discriminate on the minorities and convey a sense of slavery? I'd really appreciate that. Thanks.

I think your right of self-determination is horse shit. I think when people say "self-determination" they mean they want an ethnically pure neighborhood without any of those dirty gooks/niggers/chinks/micks/poles/whatevers.

As I seem to recall, wasn't it Germany's exercising it's right to "self-determination" that prompted the creation of Israel in the first place?

    End of the fucking line:

You don't have the right to not live with people of a different ethnic group. Buck up and accept it.

So tell me, what was the truth about Israel trying to sink the USS Liberty, or using artillery against U.N. buildings, or starting a war in Lebanon even though the soldiers were captured in Lebanese territory, or Israel attacking a Palestinian beach with warships, etc.

All we ever here about is how Israel is protecting itself. Somehow, Israel has 'protected' itself into strategically dominating Palestinian territory and now is trying to bomb Iran even though Israel is the most warmongering nation in the middle east; no small feat.

Any state that creates organizations and software to spread its propaganda is obviously full of shit. If Israel was telling the truth, they wouldn't need propaganda.

If the single company that they have invested in is "too big to fail" and is backed by government assurances against bankruptcy, then they can't lose everything because the government can prop up their stock prices using taxpayer money.

The entire point of the bailout was to save stock market prices from falling precipitously, and the false "green shoots" being seen are the intended result of the bailout money: a rebound in stock market prices to help out the rich who are invested in these companies.

I am tempted to be glib and say that I could watch a video on golf and still shoot triple digits.

Information is critical. So is practice. Part of the point of posting the question was to highlight that there is actual value in attempting to make such things. It is hard to predict what one is going to learn but some learning will, no doubt, occur.

It's like the people who suggest that all we need to do is to learn how to program the robots. Someone, at least until they magically become self-replicating, actually has to make the robots. And lots of useful knowledge comes out of that process that will never occur to the person simply writing code.
